Here’s a quick public service announcement. You are a meaning-making machine. Whether you’ve ever realised that or not, or even thought about it, it’s definitely true.
How can I be so sure? Because it’s what we super sophisticated humans do.
We take all the big and small things – the conversations, the interactions, the non-verbal communications – and make them mean something. And this meaning-making comes with our own special flavour, thanks to our perspectives and how we might be feeling on any given day.
So you might decide that the way someone spoke to you means they don’t like you. Or the fact that you weren’t selected for a promotion means that your career is over. Maybe it means that the universe is against you when you can’t find a car parking space.
Equally, you could choose to believe…that the way someone spoke to you means they’re having a bad day. That missing out on a promotion means that something better is coming your way. And that a lack of car spaces means that it’s a fabulous day for your local traders.
And I guess that’s the point of this piece. You’re absolutely in charge of your meaning-making. You get to choose, select and decide what meaning you apply to everything in your life.
So my advice today is to choose wisely.
Assume that others are thinking and saying good things about you. Believe that the universe has your back. Feel grateful for the things that come your way rather than wondering if things could be better. And see and feel the difference that comes with positive meaning-making.
Have you ever considered yourself a meaning-making machine? Have you been making things mean positive or negative things? I’d love for you to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
And until next time – stay fabulous.
